About Me

I have 20 years training and experience in many aspects of psychology and therapeutic work.

I decided in the 1980s that I wanted to be a Psychologist. At the time I was finishing a Business Degree and working for the Department of Employment re-training disabled people to enable them to return to employment. Whilst studying for my Psychology Degree I continued to work for the Department of Employment working in the Placement, Assessment and Counselling Team. This involved assessments by interview and psychometric testing.

I felt that many clients needed counselling to help them overcome their disabilities and their lack of confidence in themselves and their future. At this point I decided to leave work and train as a counsellor. During my training and for two years after, I worked, on a voluntary basis, at the Well Woman’s Centre in Preston with most of the counselling involving rape and abuse cases.

Whilst doing this voluntary work I was employed as a lecturer at Runshaw College and Skelmersdale College teaching ‘A’ level Psychology. I also started my private practice at this time which was in Garstang.Throughout this time I attended courses on Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioural therapy which has given me an eclectic style of working that can adapt to the needs of my clients.

In 2001 I went to work for the NHS at South Manchester University Hospital setting up a Counselling Service for amputees. Within twelve months this service had expanded to include Clinical Hypnosis. Hypnosis was used for a range of clinical interventions but the most successful results were in the treatment of phantom limb pain. In the course of this work I had a research paper published in the Journal of Contemporary Hypnosis.

The service continued to expand each year with the addition of E.M.D.R. for the treatment of trauma patients and E.F.T. for confidence building, positive reinforcement and many other applications. Throughout this time my private practice continued in Cheadle, Cheshire and in Preston, Lancashire.

I now divide my time between the Counselling, Hypnosis and Trauma Service that I run at the Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre, Royal Preston Hospital and my private practice.

My private work includes consultancy work for a number of organisations and a private clinic practices in Preston and Barrowford.
